Wish You Were Here explores the rise of "last-chance tourism" in the face of the climate crisis, where travelers visit threatened destinations before they vanish. Spanning four continents over ten years, Palmer's work contrasts idyllic vacation spots with the harsh realities of climate change—melting glaciers, rising seas, and dying coral reefs. Her imagery intentionally juxtaposes leisure with the unsettling truth of our environmental decline.

This project, part of Futuri Prossimi in Turin, takes a fun look at family identity. The artist finds what she thought was a love letter to her dad, but it’s really a recipe collection in a language she never learned. This leads to a cooking reunion with her Romanian aunts, where a honey cake hilariously becomes an apple pie. The work explores cultural confusion and how language shapes belonging. During the exhibition, she’ll bake the “wrong” cake to spark conversations about love and connection in cooking.

In 2016, the British referendum led to the UK’s departure from the European Community in 2020, sparking debates on national identity and the EU’s viability. Brexit exposed a crisis within the establishment and a breakdown in national hegemony. The photographic project “Shine On,” started in 2019, explores the evolving British identity amid global changes, highlighting paradoxical effects, especially in marginalized communities. It captures a nation in flux, documenting societal metamorphosis through rediscovered landscapes and memories.

The fires in La Teste and Landiras made big news in summer 2022 for their intensity and length. Now that winter is here and the media has moved on, the collective Les Associés is reflecting on what happened with a new documentary project called 600°. They’re using photography, video, and sound to explore the economic, social, and climate issues raised by the fires and still relevant questions about land management and planning.

In the second year of war, while men are scarce, life goes on in Ukraine. Women wait for their partners, youth face the threat of conscription, and older generations help care for children. Some people hide or can’t serve due to their roles in society. During his visit to Ukraine, Nicolas Dykmans focused on these often-overlooked individuals to show that life continues, even amid the trauma of conflict.

The community of Nazareth, managed by Caritas Spes, is a center for IDPs, mutilated soldiers, and drug addicts on the outskirts of Drohobych, Ukraine. Once a secret Soviet military base, it now symbolizes Ukrainian resilience and the quest for a national identity amidst ongoing conflict. The center brings together diverse individuals united by war, sharing stories of suffering and hope. This project aims to depict their daily lives, highlighting their struggle for normalcy and national pride. Since arriving six months ago, I’ve been moved by the Ukrainians’ gratitude and hospitality, and this work seeks to share their human drama and desire for peace.

Al-Aziziyah, near the Jordanian border in Saudi Arabia, is quickly transforming into a tourist destination, with new buildings and workers arriving fast. Just a few years ago, it didn’t exist; it’s part of a redevelopment effort spreading to the countryside.
Lacking official plans, the town feels randomly constructed, with many empty or unfinished houses. The photographer explores the idea of "place" versus "non-place," aiming to capture the unique reality of this unusual environment.

With the support of the Embassy of Sweden in Romania // From 2019 to 2023, Joakim Kocjancic explored Bucharest and felt an instant connection to the city’s raw energy. He was particularly drawn to the younger generation, capturing their unique style and attitude. His photos reflect the vibrancy of youth, the unpredictability of city life, and his own inner journey. It became a search for the extraordinary within the ordinary, as Pessoa said, "We see not what we see, but who we are."

In “Resilience, an Icelandic Perspective”, Sandra Mjoll Jonsdottir, Yael BC, Maria Kjartans, Kristjan Maack, and Telma Harthese come together to explore what it means to endure and thrive in the face of change, both natural and human-made. Their works weave a narrative of survival, identity, and the powerful forces of the Icelandic environment, bringing a unique and vital perspective to this theme.

With the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Romania // Curator: Ioana Cobzaru (NL-RO) //Henri Blommers’ art over the last decade has focused on environmental issues like climate change and industrial farming. He experiments with film to reflect these problems, even using chemicals and contaminated water. He highlights soil salinisation and suggests solutions like reducing pesticides, composting, and switching to plant-based diets. His work tackles today’s environmental challenges and hints at possible solutions.

Curator: Ioana Cobzaru (NL-RO) // Ana Scripcariu-Ochiai, born in 1992, is a visual artist with roots in Japan and Romania. After studying oil painting at the Tokyo University of the Arts, where she graduated at the top of her class, she focused on blending cultural anthropology with her art, documenting indigenous festivals and folk traditions. Now working on her PhD in sculpture, her recent project, Vessels of Light, reflects her year-long immersion in Romanian culture, capturing its essence across the seasons. Her sensitive and poetic work has been exhibited in prestigious venues in Japan, Romania, Vietnam, and France.

In partnership with Wipplay Paris // The Larousse dictionary defines resilience as the ability to withstand shocks and keep going, whether in mechanics, ecology, or human behavior. It's about taking a hit and moving forward. Through photography, resilience captures strength, vulnerability, and hope, revealing how life endures even as seasons change.
