As the Larousse dictionary reminds us, “resilience” can be applied to many fields, whether it is mechanics, ecology, information technology, or even human behavior. Whether it refers to the “mechanical characteristic defining a material’s resistance to shocks,” the “ability of a system to continue functioning, even in case of failure,” or the “capacity of an ecosystem to recover after external disruption,” the idea remains the same: resilience is about being able to take a hit and move forward.
Through the lens, resilience evokes moments of strength, vulnerability, or hope. Whether documenting social issues or the beauty of nature, photography can reveal the resilience of our environment: the seasons change, but life endures.
