    With the support of the Embassy of Sweden in Romania // From 2019 to 2023, Joakim Kocjancic explored Bucharest and felt an instant connection to the city’s raw energy. He was particularly drawn to the younger generation, capturing their unique style and attitude. His photos reflect the vibrancy of youth, the unpredictability of city life, and his own inner journey. It became a search for the extraordinary within the ordinary, as Pessoa said, "We see not what we see, but who we are."

    In “Resilience, an Icelandic Perspective”, Sandra Mjoll Jonsdottir, Yael BC, Maria Kjartans, Kristjan Maack, and Telma Harthese come together to explore what it means to endure and thrive in the face of change, both natural and human-made. Their works weave a narrative of survival, identity, and the powerful forces of the Icelandic environment, bringing a unique and vital perspective to this theme.

    With the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Romania // Curator: Ioana Cobzaru (NL-RO) //Henri Blommers’ art over the last decade has focused on environmental issues like climate change and industrial farming. He experiments with film to reflect these problems, even using chemicals and contaminated water. He highlights soil salinisation and suggests solutions like reducing pesticides, composting, and switching to plant-based diets. His work tackles today’s environmental challenges and hints at possible solutions.

    Curator: Ioana Cobzaru (NL-RO) // Ana Scripcariu-Ochiai, born in 1992, is a visual artist with roots in Japan and Romania. After studying oil painting at the Tokyo University of the Arts, where she graduated at the top of her class, she focused on blending cultural anthropology with her art, documenting indigenous festivals and folk traditions. Now working on her PhD in sculpture, her recent project, Vessels of Light, reflects her year-long immersion in Romanian culture, capturing its essence across the seasons. Her sensitive and poetic work has been exhibited in prestigious venues in Japan, Romania, Vietnam, and France.

    Celebrated director Godfrey Reggio returns after ten years with a new experimental film unlike any other from his already daring career: a bardic fairy tale about the end of the world and the beginning of a new one, tinged with apocalyptic comedy, rapturous cinematography, unforgettable vistas, and the innocence and hopes of a new generation. Featuring an electrifying score composed by Reggio’s longtime collaborator Philip Glass, with additional vocals from Sussan Deyhim and co-directed by veteran editor and filmmaker Jon Kane, ONCE WITHIN A TIME is the indie revelation of the year.

    After the Soviet invasion of Prague, Libuše Jarcovjáková sets out to break free from the limits of Czechoslovakian life, capturing her journey in thousands of photos. Now, at 70, she finally gets the chance to showcase her work after 50 years of being overlooked. Her story is one of rebellion and self-discovery, taking her from the gritty streets of Prague to Berlin and Tokyo. Along the way, she documents her life, identity, and emotions, leaving behind a huge collection of raw, honest photos that tell her story.

This is the story of ordinary people trying to survive, love, have fun, and make the most of what little we have. We're all connected, sharing a dream of a better life with basic comforts like electricity, food, and safety.

    With the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Romania // For four seasons, renowned Dutch war photographer Eddy van Wessel has traveled along the Ukrainian frontlines, still chasing the perfect shot that captures the essence of the conflict. Filmmaker Joost van der Valk follows him, documenting his experiences and the realities of war. Van der Valk, known for his award-winning documentaries, explores how a photographer copes in the surreal world of war.

    In this 3-hour cyanolumen workshop, Henri Blommers will show you how to create cyanolumens and share his tips for choosing the right paper. You can bring your own digital negatives and photo paper, but Henri will provide some too. Just make sure to wear clothes that can get messy and bring a plastic bag for your prints. A little knowledge of cyanotype is helpful!

    In the summer of 2016, César Dezfuli spent three weeks on the Iuventa, a boat run by the NGO Jugend Retter, rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean. On August 1st, he photographed 118 people saved from a dinghy near Libya, aiming to humanize their stories and capture their trauma as they arrived in Pozzallo, Italy.

    Born in Madrid, Dezfuli is a self-taught journalist and photographer focused on migration and human rights. His work has spanned global issues, including elections and families defying China’s one-child policy. Since 2015, he has concentrated on the migrant crisis, leading to his project “Passengers,” which challenges how migration is visually represented.

    As part of the introduction to the new material, Daníel will perform a very special and intimate show as part of Bucharest Photofest. Letting the audience into his songwriting state with a performance of the songs bare and naked as they came to be. The new album is expected for release in April of 2025.
