We are excited to announce an open call for Icelandic artists to participate in a unique exhibition opportunity. This initiative aims to foster creativity, innovation, and cultural exchange within the vibrant Icelandic art scene.

About the Project

This open call invites Icelandic artists to submit their proposals for an exhibition that will take place during the 9th edition of Bucharest Photofest, from October 11-20, 2024, in Bucharest, Romania. The selected artists will have the opportunity to showcase their work in a dynamic and supportive environment, engaging with both local and international audiences.

Eligibility
  • Open to all Icelandic artists, regardless of age or medium.
  • Collaborative projects and interdisciplinary works are highly encouraged.
  • Artists are not obligated to attend the festival
  • Artists are encouraged to link their projects to the festival theme, which is Resilience.

Submission Guidelines & Rules
  • A written biography of approximately 10 lines in English specifying the candidate’s career, important dates, past exhibitions and/or major publications
  • Project presentation text English of a maximum of 2500 characters.
  • A maximum of 15 images from the series presented. Color and black and white images are accepted in the same portfolio.
  • The pictures must be 1800px on the long side.
  • To pay the application fees
  • All the material must be sent to hi@bucharestphotofest.ro
  • If selected, the participant is required to send high-resolution files (TIFF format – 60x40cm, 300 dpi minimum) by September 20th, or they will be disqualified.

WHAT THE WINNERS RECEIVE

We are committed to providing a rich and rewarding experience for all participants. Here’s what we can offer:

  1. Exhibition Space: A dedicated space at Bucharest Photofest for the duration of the festival including curating, producing, and setting up the exhibitions of the winning works.
  2. Networking Opportunities: Access to a network of local and international artists, curators, and art professionals.
  3. Opportunities to participate in workshops, artist talks, and panel discussions.
  • Projecting a selection of images from each work during the whole period of the festival.
  • Promoting the selected works through the communication channels of our partners. Comprehensive marketing and promotional support, including social media campaigns, press releases, and inclusion in the festival’s event calendar. A dedicated page on the festival’s website as well.
  • Creating documentation of the exhibitions and activities to be shared with the winning photographers.
  • Providing a festival pass for all winners and a catalog.

CALENDAR

  • Submission Deadline: September 15, 2024
  • Notification of Selected Artists: September 18, 2024
  • Exhibition Dates: October 11-20, 2024

APPLICATION FEES:

The participation fee for the call is 27 euros / 4000 ISK*** that must be paid trough the open call website. See bellow the payment details.

*** The payment must be done in the same time when an application is sent, not after.


Selection Process
  • A panel of esteemed curators and art professionals from Bucharest Photofest team and collaborators will review all submissions. Selected artists will be notified by September 18, 2024.
  • The jury reserves the right to decide at any time not to select any winning or finalist projects if the projects do not meet the required quality standards.
  • The jury reserves the right to reject a project if it does not adhere to the moral, legal, or ethical standards of the festival.
