As the Larousse dictionary reminds us, “resilience” can be applied to many fields, including mechanics, ecology, IT and human behavior. Whether we’re talking about “the mechanical characteristic that defines a material’s resistance to shock”, “the ability of a system to continue functioning, even in the event of a breakdown” or “the capacity of an ecosystem to recover after an external disturbance”, the idea remains the same: resilience means knowing how to take a shock and move on.
Through the lens, resilience evokes moments of strength, vulnerability and hope. Whether documenting social issues or the beauty of nature, photography can reveal the resilience of our environment: seasons change, but life persists.
