Hinako Omori, an intimate performance – The Opening of the 10th edition of Bucharest Photofest

Hinako Omori is a Japanese artist based in London. Her music offers immersive sonic architectures and environments in which to process and access emotional states through binaural recording or multi-channel installation, across ambient synthesizer and vocal music, classical arrangement and composition.

Her textures and many-layered approach to composition have garnered her critical acclaim – debut album “a journey…” was called “remarkable” by Pitchfork and “blissfully restorative” by Loud and Quiet, and “stillness, softness…” was credited as a “deeply enchanting patchwork” by Electronic Sound magazine.

Internationally she has performed in venues such as Southbank Centre, The National Gallery, St Paul’s Cathedral, ICA, Kings Place, Volksbühne, Bishopsgate Institute, at festivals including Le Guess Who, ADE, Pitchfork (London), SXSW (Houndstooth / MUTEK) and Hans-Joachim Roedelius’ More Ohr Less Festival, and DJ sets at Tate Modern and POLA Museum.

Festival Launch: Hinako Omori Opens Bucharest Photofest 2025

The tenth edition of Bucharest Photofest commenced with a compelling live performance by Hinako Omori, an internationally recognized artist whose work spans ambient, classical, and vocal music. Performing at Control Club, Omori introduced the audience to rich, immersive soundscapes constructed through binaural recording, multi-channel installation, and multi-layered compositions.

Her debut album, “a journey…”, has been widely celebrated as “remarkable” (Pitchfork), “blissfully restorative” (Loud and Quiet), and “deeply enchanting” (Electronic Sound), exemplifying her ability to transform listening into a meditative and profoundly emotional experience.

The concert was a fitting prelude to a festival dedicated to visual storytelling, photography, and interdisciplinary dialogue, signaling the start of ten days of exhibitions, masterclasses, film screenings, and cultural events. Through her performance, Omori reminded attendees of the power of art to create immersive, shared experiences, bridging sound and vision in ways that inspire reflection, engagement, and creativity.

Hinako Omori - stillness, softness… (Houndstooth)

a journey… was the 2022 debut from Hinako Omori, shaped by the concept of forest bathing and outdoor recordings. stillness, softness… draws breath inward and steadies the room until attention begins to thrum.

Omori crafts thirteen linked vignettes that share a bloodstream through an analogue tone bed, warm with a faint electrical shimmer. What you hear is concentration turning into sound and returning as a durable calm.
