The eleventh look
Dear friends, partners and people of the image,
In October 2025 we closed a decade of Bucharest Photofest. Ten editions, more than 300 events, close to 1,000 artists and professionals, and over 50,000 participants. It was a moment of assessment, but also a confirmation that a photography festival can function, in Bucharest, as a stable cultural institution with international relevance.
The eleventh edition starts from a harder question. We live in an excess of images and, at the same time, in a steady erosion of their capacity to produce a response. WITNESS is our curatorial answer to that situation: an edition built around photography as presence, as long-term commitment, and as a form of responsibility towards what is photographed.
Between 9 and 18 October 2026, the festival presents around 50 events across more than ten venues in Bucharest, with over 200 exhibiting artists. Our guests include photographers awarded the Pulitzer Prize, World Press Photo and National Geographic distinctions or Ian Parry grant, alongside festival directors, editors and curators from across Europe. The program remains multidisciplinary: exhibitions, film screenings, a conference, analogue photography, a photobook fair, educational events and concerts.
A significant part of the edition is dedicated to the local scene. A series of open calls addressed to Romanian photographers will feed the exhibition program, and the encounter between local practice and international guests remains the festival’s central stake.
We invite you to be part of this edition.
